In order to address the growing need for mental health supports for youth, Cardinal Carter C.H.S. staff and parent council will be hosting a Regional Summit for Mental Health on Thursday, March 21. The Summit will consist of an information evening for YCDSB parents and their intermediate-senior aged children and board employees. We look forward to hearing from a number of mental health advocates, professionals and community organizations such as the Canadian Mental Health Association, the York Regional Police Youth Mental Health Group, Art Not Shame and York Region Public Health. The keynote speaker is Sam Fiorella, co-founder of The Friendship Bench (#yellowisforhello) and father of Lucas Fiorella who died by suicide in 2014. Organizers feel this summit will be a timely and impactful event for our students, parents and staff and it is our hope to bring much needed awareness, helpful strategies and resources to our York Catholic District School Board community.
