School Philosophy and Mission
The Cardinal Carter Catholic High School community enthusiastically endorses the mission of the Board. It accepts its responsibility to be part of the saving mission of the Church and, in co-operation with home and Church, to deliver a distinctly Catholic program intentionally directed to the growth of the whole person. It focuses on helping students become mature Catholics, responsible people who are capable of choosing freely in conformity with a conscience that has been shaped by Christian values and virtues. Thus, as a consequence of this philosophy, students, staff and parents cooperatively developed the following school Mission Statement:
Cardinal Carter Catholic High School is a Christ-centred community called to help each person achieve full potential in a supportive and caring environment.
This statement is intended to be the “ideal” towards which all of our efforts will be directed and against which all of our actions will be measured.
Cardinal Carter CHS will place an emphasis on the following strategies in order to achieve success for all students: the development of learning skills, an active curriculum and student centred help. It is hopeful that these strategies will stimulate students’ love for learning. There will be review of students’ data to initiate student success activities.
- Academic Assistances
- Literacy skills courses/EQAO preparation through ACE
- Subject specific “help labs”
- Student progress through “Counsellor Watch” programs and Student Success Team Meetings
- Focus on disciplined behaviour with emphasis on service to others, mutual respect and equity
- Teaching strategies, which incorporate experiential learning, co-operative groups, differentiate learning
- Communication with parents regarding students’ progress
- Emphasis on career pathways, spiritual and educational counselling
