Our IB Extended Essay Team was thrilled to welcome staff into the LLC to engage them in the Extended Essay Mentorship Program at Cardinal Carter. The extended essay is an IB Diploma Programme requirement that engages students in a self-directed research essay in a subject area of their expertise and interest.
The goal of this session was to assist Teacher Mentors in guiding their student mentees through the IB extended essay process. The session covered aspects of the EE process including: advising on research questions, subject areas and topics; using EE Subject Guide data to inform mentorship foci; assessment best practices for accuracy and consistency; and tips for executing effective Reflection Planning and Progress sessions with students.
Our Teacher Mentors are a crucial piece of the puzzle as they share their passion, knowledge and skills with students in their chosen subject areas. We cannot overstate our gratitude to them for their commitment to our students.
A special thanks to our Extended Essay Leads, Marisa Dametto, Janice Lambropoulos and Ashley Magloughlen for championing this session and the entire Extended Essay Program at Carter. We couldn’t do it without you!
