Check out this Scholarship Opportunity Viola Desmond Award. Named in Viola Desmond’s honour, this award celebrates the past, present, and future achievements of Black women and the Black community in Canada.
Each year, along with a Ryerson student, faculty, staff, alumni, one local area high school student with plans to attend post-secondary school is also chosen for an award. The recipient will receive $500 and will be celebrated at the virtual awards ceremony on March 22, 2021.
Eligibility criteria for high school students
Eligible candidates must:

Self-identify as a woman and have Black/African-Canadian ancestry.

Demonstrate advocacy for the Black/African-Canadian community and have made a positive difference in areas such as equity, diversity, inclusion, human rights, social justice, and community-building.

Be in her final year of secondary school in the GTA and plans to attend post-secondary education after graduation.

Hold a minimum average of 80% in 6 U/M credits or equivalent.

Agree to be nominated by her nominator.
